Are you currently running iOS4 on your Apple iPhone 3G, 3GS or shiny new iPhone 4? With the recent launch of iOS4, the Apple iPhone added in a number of great new features and enhancements to an already superb phone.

While I’ve personally tried out iOS4 on my previous iPhone 3G and on my new iPhone 4, I can personally attest that both phones will run differently. If you have the 3GS model, it runs everything great — minus the improved camera and video capabilities along with the retina display (which is amazing)!
A breakdown by model:
- Create folders for applications (12 applications per folder)
- Phone feels a little snappier
- No video recording capabilities
- No improved camera with flash
- No retina display
- No image resizing on the fly
- Create folders for applications (12 applications per folder)
- Multi-tasking
- Phone is fast, but not as fast as the iPhone 4.
- Video recording, but not in 720p
- No camera flash
- No retina display
- No image resizing on the fly
- Create folders for applications (12 applications per folder).
- Multi-tasking
- 35% faster than the iPhone 3GS
- Video recording at 720p
- 5 megapixel camera with flash (the picture above was taken with an iPhone 4)
- Retina display to improve pixel density
- Image resizing on the fly
- Improved phone reception
Over the weekend, some people emailed me asking what they should do regarding upgrading to iOS4. If you plan to upgrade to iOS4, here are a few issues you may experience and possible solutions.
- Market America Mobile launched, but crashed when I performed a search (solution: delete the application and re-download from iTunes).
- My 3G iPhone runs sluggish (solution: don’t upgrade to iOS4 on the 3G model, as these features may not run optimally on this model and may cause the phone to run slow).
While not all of the solutions will fix your problem, the most important thing to remember about upgrading to any new operating system is that not all applications will work flawlessly out of the gate. That’s why it is a good idea to not upgrade yet, until an application has been released that supports for example, iOS4. With the operating being so new, companies have just started releasing their retooled versions to take advantage of the new iOS4 from Apple.
If you have already upgraded and are experiencing issues, try and downgrade to version 3, until a new version of Market America Mobile has been released that is built to take advantage of the new iOS4 for iPhone 4.
Are you experiencing issues running any apps in iOS4? Leave a comment with the name of the app.
Sincerely,

I have the 4.0 software on the 3gs, and have issues. When on the previous version, i did have issues as well. Such as registering PC’s directly through the app, is very slow, and sometimes, the app shuts down. And I get odd error messages both on version 3.x and 4.0.

I will definitely get an iphone 4g.
I upgraded to the iOS4 – my apps seem to run fine except for the MA Mobile – it shuts down while in the middle of searching or trying to log in. I am deleting it and downloading it again in iTunes to see if that helps.
Thanks for the heads up – it may have saved me from looking like an idiot when trying to show someone the app! This way I can say we are in the middle of upgrading it

My daughter talked me down from getting the iPhone 4 until the next generation releases, but I am enjoying the new features of the 4.0 software on my 3GS. Unfortunately, I have always found the ma app lacking some important features, such as something as simple as saving one’s password, so rarely use it on my iPhone or iPad, preferring to access my portal directly through Safari. But, as with all things ma, I know it’s only a matter of time before the app will be fantastic. Perhaps in time for the next generation iPhone?
I just want a native Android app for my Droid Incredible. Android adoption is catching up to the iPhone.
ios 4.0 is still in bata that iphone made it as public firmware, which lack of speed even on iphone 4 with bigger ram. yet comparing iphone 4 with iphone 3gs, 3gs wins because it is classic and it has all the feature the 4 has, face time, don’t know what to do with it, if you don’t want your wife caught you with other girl..lol..good luck
Great article! I just got my new iPhone 4 today and am still learning. Looking forward to any follow up comments. Thanks!
