When you see the color pink, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? Pink can symbolize many things—love, self-worth, feelings of caring, acceptance—but for many it means hope.
Chosen for its strong connection with femininity, pink is the universal color associated with breast cancer awareness. You’ve probably already started to see lots of pink during the past week as businesses are gearing up for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
According to breastcancer.org, one in eight women will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of their lifetime, so it is no surprise that the nation as a whole has rallied around this campaign in recent years—25 to be exact. This is a disease that has the potential to affect every American in some way, whether it is personally or knowing someone who is battling the disease.
So, while it is disheartening to see and hear about struggles with breast cancer, it is very empowering to see so many individuals and businesses support Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Millions of people will come together this month to raise awareness and funds to fight a disease that has taken the lives of so many mothers, daughters, sisters and wives but has not taken our will to fight and the American spirit to persevere.
From the fields of the NFL to the pocketbooks of average women, it seems that everyone has found their own way to support Breast Cancer Awareness month. If you’re a football fan, you’ll notice that real men do in fact wear pink—pink gloves, pink cleats, pink mouth guards—as they show their support on the field.
Online at marketamerica.com and SHOP.com™ we at ma® will be doing our part to help support Breast Cancer Awareness in the month of October. With every purchase of Motives® Collagen Core Lipstick in Inspired, or Motives Mineral Lipstick in Brilliant, Motives will donate $1 per unit purchased toward breast cancer research.
With so many businesses, like Market America, supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month, it’s easy to get involved and catch the spirit of hope—hope for a cure, hope for a family, hope for a next birthday. This October, what will you do to inspire hope and keep it alive?
