Powerline: How do you discover a new product for Motives?
Amanda Wall: First, I research the upcoming season’s makeup and fashion trends. I really enjoy seeing the looks and styles for Taiwan and how they relate to what is happening in the U.S. I watch videos, read articles and collect images from runways shows. Translating the trends from the runways to real life is so much fun; I really enjoy this part of my job.
Next, I run sales reports and compose analysis on what Motives and other beauty care items are currently sold in Taiwan. I look at the best performing colors by categories (for example, eye shadows and lip sticks) from popular items. I also research market trends so that we can always stay one step ahead!
When choosing new makeup shades, I have a composed makeup palettes that feature the current shades for each market. I place the top selling shades for the market, in order, in the palette. Then, I add the colors I am proposing to see if they are a good fit. Often times, I look for any colors/shades that are missing from a product line’s offering.
I also look at Skin Care and Personal Care product sales to determine if launching similar items will be worthwhile. Anti-Aging and Personal Care are large markets in Taiwan. It makes me happy to be able to launch an item that I know people will use and enjoy. From Cellular Laboratories® to VitaShield®, our brands are hugely triumphant in Taiwan.
Then, I brainstorm on what Motives, Personal Care and Anti-Aging items that are currently sold in the U.S. will work with both upcoming beauty movements and current products’ sales trends. It is really fun to find new and exciting colors and products for an international market in this respect. I get to be creative while finding a solution to the ‘what-to-launch’ problem!
Finally, I propose my launch-item suggestions to Loren, who looks at my research and decides if there is anything that she wants to add or change. It is great how involved Loren is in every aspect of augmenting the Beauty Care brands internationally. We get to work together to best decide how to grow Taiwan’s product offerings and that is so pleasurable!
Powerline: Why would you encourage someone to start a Motives business?
Amanda Wall: Makeup is supposed to be fun, right? While I have always been a girly-girl, I never used to wear makeup like I do now, before I started working for Motives. Now, I can’t stop talking to my friends, family (and sometimes complimenting strangers) about what Motives products I am wearing. If I was a Distributor, there is no doubt I would have much success because it is so easy to talk about and sell Motives. The product quality is top-notch, while still being affordable. Powerline: What’s your favorite product in the getting started kit?
